Sealine's Return to Melbourne - 1st November 2008
After a successful Sydney Boat Show in August the two recently arrived Sealine T50 and T60 were delivered to their new home in Melbourne.
Purchased by a Melbourne based client, the Sealine T60 will now reside in the Docklands overlooking Victoria Harbour. Both vessels will be on display at the 2009 Melbourne Boat Show at the end of January.
The delivery voyage to Melbourne in October was a fantastic experience, taking in the natural beauty of the coast line and wildlife. No fewer than 18 whales were sighted on the east coast, making for a remarkable and memorable journey.
With a bumpy start we headed off in convoy from Sydney, clearing the heads around 0400 on a crisp and windy morning. With the swell still present from a recently passing storm, a number of the crew, myself included, were feeling a little under the weather. I am usually a stickler for sea sickness prevention, though made the fatal error of not putting my patch on until just a couple of hours before casting off. Anyone who has had experiences with patches will be aware that they should be put on a minimum of eight hours before going to sea. A hard lesson to learn, though fortunately for me my co-skipper is immune to the dreaded bug and was suitably capable of taking command while I expelled some green stuff and lay down for the next 12 hours.
Eden is always a beautiful place, particularly for lunch overlooking the harbour on a sunny day. Fresh seafood is always on the menu, delivered each morning, and I am yet to walk away unsatisfied. Dolphins are a treat in the harbour as they come in search food from the commercial fishing boats and tour operators, the experience enhanced by crystal clear water around the boats.
From Eden to Melbourne, with a brief couple of hours in Port Welshpool, we had perfect weather and flat seas across “the paddock”. With the entrance to Port Phillip Bay enjoyably uneventful and well in time to miss the forecasted change and subsequent storms. Home in a little over three and a half days.
Trips like this are a constant reminder to me of the benefits and joy of working in the industry, where one can quite easily combine business and pleasure.
